exam 2 - vestibular testings Flashcards
smooth pursuits and saccades are indication of peri of central
central issues
VOR cancellation the pt cannot keep their eye on the target
central issue
why do we do gaze holding
to see if you have central lesion
the cere and the brain stem are essential for gaze holding
what two components are important for gaze holding
medial vestibular nucleus
prepositus hypoglossi
what happen if our eye drift from the central position
there will be quick corrective saccades that will beat in the opposite direction of the slow drift
this is gaze evoked nys
what is a skewed deviation
vertical misalignment of the eyes due to a supranuclear lesion
how is the skewed deviation named
for the side of the lower eye
what is the vetical movement of the eye an indication of in the cover test
brain lesion or a stroke
what is strabismus
an abnormal alignment of the eyes
heterophoria
this is the intermittent tendency for misalignment
may develope heaache, double vision, eye strain
what is heteriphoria due to
stress
head ache
illness
hterotrophia is seen in what population of children
3%
children do not grow out of it
what is a tropia - seen in the test
this occurs when the fixating eye is covered and the deviating uncovered eye moves
what is a phoria - seen in the test
when the deviating eye is covered - it tends to move
so when we uncover it the examiner can see the eye move back to its original position
what do we see with a positive in HIT
corrective saccade
- indicating that they have a vest issue
