Exam Flashcards
Co dominance
Form of inheritance where alleles and gene pair in a heterozygote are fully expressed and equally doninant
Incomplete dominance
Neither alleles dominate the other, contribute to phenotype- so new phenotype is made
Recessive inheritance
Phenotype is only expressed when two copies are homozygously recessive
Crossing over
In metaphase 1 the central chromatids of a homologous pair of chromosomes snap and exchange pieces of DNA, creating 4 new gametes
Meiosis
Cell division that produces unique cells with half number of chromosomes
Segregation
Metaphase 2, each chromosome lines up in a random order and alleles are mixed into new alleles
Independent assortment
During metaphase 1, pair of chromosomes line up at equator- mixes existing parental cells to form new gametes
