what is the tooth crown
The portion of tooth above the gums
Enamel
Outer coating of the tooth; close to bone; Hardest substance in the body
Dentin(e)
main tissue of the tooth under the enamel; not as hard as enamel; but also similar to bone
Pulp cavity
the canals inside of the tooth; has the pulp with living blood vessels and nerves
Root canal
the channel where the nerves and blood vessels of the tooth reaches the pulp cavity
Primary teeth
aka baby teeth; the first teeth that erupt through the gums; 20 teeth in total; all baby teeth are lost around the age of 6
Secondary teeth
your adult teeth; usually in by 11; 32 teeth in total; teeth are properly in place by 19 - 21 years of age
What is the first type of surface on teeth?
Occlusal
What is the second type of surface on teeth?
Buccal
what is the third and final type of surface on teeth?
Lingual
What is the numbering system for secondary teeth?
starting from the back of the upper left side going from 1 - 32, and ending again on the bottom left side
Where are your incisors
the front, straightest teeth in your mouth; 7, 8,9, 10, 23, 24, 25, 26
Where are your canines
the pointy teeth after your straighter incisors; 6, 11, 22, 27
Where are your premolars?
the two smaller molars behind the canines; 4, 5, 12, 13, 20, 21, 28, 29
Where are your molars?
In front of the wisdom teeth; 2, 3, 14, 15, 18, 19, 30, and 31
