biological profile
an assessment of the sex, age at death, height, racial affinity, and class level info
epiphyseal line
a thin line of bony tissue that goes across the ends of the bone
Epiphyseal plate
the growth plate in the bone
ante mortem
occuring before death
perimortem
occurring around the time of death
post mortem
occurring after death
What are wear patterns?
wear patterns are patterned anomalies that appear on people from habits or occupations. Like smoking pipes wearing down teeth, or a writer bump on someone’s finger
Pubic symphysis is what?
The measured surface changes in the pubic bone that indicate possible age
What is the pelvic inlet?
the circular hole that is inside of the pelvis
What is the subpubic angle?
The angle in which the pelvis is located; indicating whether the pelvis is male or female
sacral/coccyx curve
the angle in which the tale bone is in relation to the pelvis/sacrum. Males usually having a closer coccyx than in female pelvises
Allometry
the ability to estimate the stature of a person from long bone lengths in proportion to the other bones discovered
Taphonomy
the study of what happens to organisms from the time of death until it is in the laboratory
Equation for calculating male stature
Height in inches = (1.880 x femur length) + 32.010
Equation for calculating female stature
Height in inches = (1.945 x femur length ) + 28.679
