Evolutionary Theory Flashcards
What does innate mean?
The baby is preprogrammed with a drive to form an attachment to the mother for survival value (food and protection)
Who came up with the evolutionary theory?
John bowlby 1969
What innate skills do babies have that activate social releases in adults (caring behaviour that helps attachments form)
Crying, gazing at human faces, cooing, smiling
What is the monotropy theory
Babies only make one attachment to the main caregiver
What is the critical period?
Bolwby believes that if we don’t make an attachment by 2 and a half then we never will and will have severe emotional disturbance
What’s the internal working model?
The attachment the chill has with it’s mother will determine the type of relationships they will have in the future
