Evolution Flashcards
Natural Selection
Genetic mutations that are beneficial to an individual’s survival are passed on through reproduction. This results in a new generation of organisms that are more likely to survive to reproduce.
Hardy-Weinberg Assumptions
No mutation, random mating, no gene flow, infinite population size, and no selection.
Adaptive Radiation
A rapid increase in the number of species with a common ancestor. (species radiating out into new species)
Cladograms
Show ancestral relationships among organisms
Adaptations
A modification of an organism or its parts that makes it more fit for existence.
