Evidence Based Practice Flashcards
Construct validity
Is Meaning attached to concepts used in study correct. Accurately labelled variables
Internal validity
Did treatment cause effect
External validity
Person, setting, or times to which results can be generalized
Threats to internal validity (10)
History-events outside of study
Maturation
Testing-familiarity with test may affect results
Instrumentation - changes in measurement tools
Regression to mean - if eval measure variable, people will move toward mean, need reliable measure
Assignment to groups- best if randomized
Mortality- subjects lost
Diffusion - limit interaction between participants
Compensatory equalization - researcher biased about treatments
Compensatory rivalry - one group thinks getting less desire able treatment
nominal measure
male/female, yes/no, classification without value
concurrent validity
measure what you think you’re measuring as compared to Gold standard
ordinal number
MMT, A level, no equal intervals between values
interval scale
temperature, distance between numbers is equal. zero is arbitrary
ratio scale
weight, length. equal distance between numbers. zero is absolute
simple random sampling
each member population equal chance of selection. random table numbers.
systematic sampling
select every nth person on list.
stratified sampling
subject randomly selected from pre determined subgroups. proportional or non proportional.
cluster sampling
random sample of naturally occurring groups. cost effective and easier/efficient.
purposive sampling
pick specific subjects to assure variety wanted.
correlation coefficient
relationship between two things.
