Evaluation Of Watson And Rayner - Methodology And Procedures Flashcards
How did Watson and Rayner ensure a high level of control?
The study took place in a controlled environment ( well lit dark room) meaning that extraneous variables could be controlled for.
Why was a baseline emotional test conducted?
To see what his responses to stimuli would be before the study.
Why is the study being filmed an advantage?
It provides a visual record of everything that happened. Future psychologists can view the original footage, allowing them to see whether Watson’s conslusions were correct.
Why is there only being 1 participant a disadvantage?
There isn’t a control group to compare the results to. It may be that repeated exposure to an animal leads to a fear response in babies, even without pairing the animal with a loud noise.
Why might little Albert not have been normal?
He was raised in a hospital environment by a mother who was a wet nurse. This is an unusual environment for a child to be raised in.
Who was the real Albert B?
Beck (2012)
Concluded that little Albert was a fake name for a child called Douglas Merritte a baby who died from hydrocephalus ( water on the brain). If this is correct it suggests he has brain damage.
