pain with PROM
think joint
joint movement limitations due to pain with distraction
think ligament or joint capsule
joint movement limitations due to pain with compression
think joint surface, loss of cartilage, bone spur, etc.

SCOTDD
- size
- color

- drainage
- depth
areas of scar assessment (4)
- color
- size
- flat/raised
- adhesions
vascular status assessment (4)
- Capillary Refill test
- Peripheral Pulse Palpation
- Modified Allen’s test
- surface temperature assessment
Capillary Refill Test
place pressure on distal portion of volar finger until tissue turns white then release and count seconds it takes for color to return to normal
*normal cap refill
Modified Allen’s Test
place firm pressure over radial and ulnar arteries and instruct client to open and close hand until the palm turns white then release pressure from one side of the wrist and record time it takes for color to return to normal then repeat with opposite side
*normal response 5 sec or less
Surface Temperature Assessment
if forearm is 4+ deg warm than fingertip surface, it may indicate vascular compromise
ROM assessment (4)
- PROM
- AROM
- TAM
- TPM
swelling assessment (3)
- volumetric displacement
- circumferential measurement
- characteristics - observation, palpation
