Amputations and Prosthetics Flashcards

1
Q

levels of upper limb amputations (9)

A

*proximal to distal1. interscapular thoracic2. shoulder disarticulation3. transhumeral (short)4. transhumeral (long)5. elbow disarticulation6. transradial (short)7. transradial (long)8. wrist disarticulation9. transmetacarpal

Q

levels and losses

A

the higher the level of amputation the greater the functional loss of the limbthe greater the functional loss the more complex the prosthesis

Q

Coat Method of donning/doffing prosthesis

A

The prosthesis is on a table/bed and the person pushes the limb between the control cable and the Y-strap from the medial side into the socket. The harness is then brought across the shoulder of the amputated side and dangles the harness down the back. The sound hand reaches around the back and slips into the axilla loop. The person then slips into the harness as if putting on a coat.

Q

Sweater Method for donning/doffing prosthesis

A

placing the residual and sound limb in at the same time and then raising both arms up, out, and up to don the prosthesis
