The eye test by moscovici. Eye tests to make sure not colour blind. Groups 4 ppts 2 confederates. Shown 36 slides diff shades of blue. First confederates answered green for all slides. In seconds green 24 blue 12. Influences majority 8.42% and 1.25%. Third of ppts said green atleast once. Supports idea minorities can influence majority.
Sampson 1991 is particularly critical of laboratory research on minority social influence. He makes the following points.
Ppts are rarely real groups. Don’t know each other. In real life have deteremined opposition and are committed and know each other. Lacks mundane realism therefore lack validity.
Mackie 1987 argues views of minority don’t lead to greater processing but rather majority who are more likely to create greater messaging processing.
Why? We believe majority tend to share similar beliefs to ours. If this isn’t the case we wonder why it’s not. This is contrast to what miscovici believes.
