evaluation - Humanistic approach Flashcards
why does the emphasis on the uniqueness causes problems in psychology ?
because it is hard to test scientifically and so cannot be supported by empirical evidence
subjective experience- both strength and limitation
limitation - it is difficult to test scientifically #
strength - it acknowledges the effect it has on behaviour. As the approach rejects scientific measurement , it does not try to be objective
issue with measuring the success of client-centred therapy ?
the measure is subjective so it could have been biased - this is because people may seem better because they have someone to talk to but it could be argued that the perception of success is more important than an objective measure of success
self actualisation concept is considered to be vague
describing it is difficult and so it is difficult to measure
concept of self actualisation has been criticised to be culture-specific
because it is a very western idea as i has related well in individualist cultures but not so well in collectivist cultures
difference between humanistic and psychodynamic ?
the humanistic approach allows for personal development and change throughout the lifespan and acknowledges that we can change as a consequence of our environment
psychodynamic approach is very childhood focused.
