Research is correlational:
such research implied that early attachment and later relationships are cause and effect but it is possible that a reason for the link between the 2 is due to something else such as an innate temperament (Kagan)
Retrospective classification:
some of the information acquired was based on asking adults about their early lives and such recollections may be flawed due to memories not being accurate
Overly determinist:
Simpson et al. (2007)
an individual’s past doesn’t determine future relationships but instead it’s correlational as there is merely a link between the two
Low correlations:
Fraley (2002) -
conducted a review of 27 infants who were assessed in infancy and later in adulthood and found a correlation ranging from .50 to as low as .10 suggesting that attachment types aren’t stable
