EVALUATE EGD Flashcards
1
Q
FOR
A
- Leenars et al did a self report questionnaire on students to investigate victimisation from evolutionary perspective found physically attractive girls more likely to be targets of indirect relational bullying to undermine friendships
- wang et al found male bullying significantly more likely to involve physical acts
- Owens et al found female bullying centred around verbal comments that reduce female appearance to boys
2
Q
AGAINST
A
- Leenars relied on self-report and takes what participant says is accurate socially desirable answers may have been given undermining validity and credibility
- similar with Owens which relied on qualitative focus making difficult to establish accuracy social desirability may again affect results
- clear problems in measuring bullying behaviour especially when relying on participant
- this theory Is also post Hoc a theory that infers behaviour is due to ancestors but cannot be proven
3
Q
APPLICATION
A
- can be used to help bullying individuals channel their aggression into more appropriate means such as sports
- most bullying intervention programmes emphasise this behaviour is maladaptive but if volk is right then some individuals are evolutionary more aggressive than others so can’t change
4
Q
ALTERNATIVE
A
- by assuming behaviour is simply due to evolutionary factors this is reductionist and ignores other equally plausible explanations eg genetics narcissistic personality
