Gerwitz
Privileged skilled choosers = M/C lots of economic capital, understand importance of education more options available
Semi - skilled choosers= ambitious w/c but less cultural capital, rely on others opinions of schools
Disconnected choosers = w/c restricted by lack of all forms of capital, lacked understanding of admission procedures, looked at safety facilities over league tables
Increased choice is only available for richest in society
Bourdieu
raise standards but only for privileged students. Education designed to incorporate m/c values meaning students with high cultural capital more likely to succeed in education
m/c parents transmit social + cultural capital e.g. revision - raising standards don’t matter because w/c lack cultural capital to take advantage of new policies
Davis and Moore
role allocation sifts people into right roles based on their skills.argue most skilled = more functional important jobs, less skilled = receive education to prepare for least functional (still important) jobs
Policies aim to raise standards of education by prioritising academic subjects + skills, neglect vocational skills as a result students don’t utilise less skills for participation of less important roles of society
