New Vocationalism 1980s onwards
YTS - training offered to NEETS, one year course for those left school if they didn’t accept this training, benefits taken away
Youth opportunities programme (YOP)
Six month programme included elements of work experience + off job training usually in FE colleges
NVQ’s on the job training, popular with trades jobs, plumber, technician and carpenter
GNVQ’s - training in key sectors e.g. health, leisure and tourism students develop skills for workplace
New Deal 1998
offered 14-19 diploma ‘lines of learning’ in tourism, travel etc + promoted to help gain qualifications who can’t achieve through standardised testing routes
Gateway helped people with interview and job searching skills
No job means stay in education for year
Refused benefits taken away
Apprenticeships 2015 onwards
earn whilst you learn minimum wage = £3.50 aimed to train learners with skills employers want
Increase apprenticeships high quality opportunities in engineering, manufacturing
Intended to reduce youth unemployment + provide alternative
Higher Apprenticeship Diplomas 2010
helps individuals gain advanced skills and knowledge combines practical, on the job training with academic learning , allowing apprentices to develop expertise in the field
