Eukaryotic Cytoplasm Flashcards
The Eukaryotic Cytoskeleton is a complex arrangement of small rods and cylinders. What are 3 specific ones?
Rods: Microfilaments &
Intermediate Filaments
Cylinders: Microtubles
What is the Cytoplasm?
Everything inside the Plasma Membrane and outside of the Nucleus
Functions of the Cytoskeleton (3)
- Maintaining Cell Shape
- Keeping the Cell Organized
- Moving cellular products throughout the cell
What are Organelles?
Membrane bound structures with specific shapes and specialized functions found in Eukaryotic cells.
The Nucleus is found only in Eukaryotic Cells. It is surrounded by a double membrane. What is this double membrane called?
Nuclear Envelope
What is the largest cell in the eukaryotic cell?
Nucleus
DNA is associated w proteins called…
Histones
What is the function of Histones in Eukaryotic DNA?
Histones condense DNA and keep it untangled
In addition to condensing DNA and keeping it untangled, Histones have what other function?
Regulate the transcription of DNA by keeping it inaccessible
What is chromatin?
A thread like mass made up of Histones and other proteins that is present when DNA is not replicating
