Mechanism of action for Ethosuximide:
A
Blocks type t voltage dependent Ca channels channel, resulting in a greater threshold required for action potential propagation

Side effects of Ethosuximide:
A
GI: Anorexia, weight loss, gastric upset, cramps, epigastric and adominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, nausea
Increased risk of congenital malformations when used with phenobarbital (Level 2)

Pharmacokinetics
A
Orally. Absorption complete in GI.
Peak levels within 3-7 hrs.
Excreted in the urine (20% unchanged drug excreted in feces)
