When a sports performer uses unfair, dubious methods which aren’t strictly against the rules to gain an advantage.

A drug which improves muscle growth (growth hormone) or oxygen intake (EPO)

thickening of the blood therefore:
-increased risk of stroke or heart attack
Why do performers take diuretics and who takes them?
Drugs which remove excess water from the body
-taken to lose weight
-hide/dilute presence of other banned substances

- causes serve dehydration
- low blood pressure
- muscle cramps
Why do performers take beta blockers and who takes them?
They are a drug which reduces affect of adrenaline
-improves fine motor control and precision
-reduces nerves

what are the negative side affects of beta blockers?
- nausea
- tiredness/weakness
- heart problems caused by poor circulation
What is blood doping and who would do it?
A operation which involves removing a pint of blood several weeks before the event and the injecting it back in the body to increase the amount of blood cells
-increases the amount of red blood cells-increases amount of oxygen carried to muscles
~used by endurance athletes to reduce fatigue
