- Consultation -Hear citizens out; discussions, surveys, and meetings; gather information - used to develop and implement policies e.g Integrated Development Plans
2nd principle
- Service standards – monitored to ensure that the citizens are satisfied; measured against international benchmarks ensure professionalism and ethicality
3rd principle
- Access - Increase access to public services; empowers the people of SA; higher standard of living
4th principle
- Courtesy - including consideration and respect for others leads to better communication; better service delivery; eliminates negative perceptions
5th principle
- Information - relevant information about the government and service delivery should be shared
6th principle
- Openness and transparency - accountability; responsible for how resources are applied and utilized
7th principle
- Redress - mechanisms should be put in place to rectify the grievances of the citizens
8th principle
- Value for money - the public servant should be able to provide the correct information and always strive to be more efficient and to reduce costs

Defined as a set of rules that helps people when they have decisions to make.
What is addressed in the Code of Conduct?:

what are the implications of unethical business behavior
=leads to an atmosphere of mistrust.
=lead to embarrassment for the individual and the business.
=The issue could be taken to court.
=reputation may suffer and customers may boycott the business, negative impact on profits.
=Large fines. May impact the profit.
=low profits lead to investors losing confidence in the business and a drop in the share price on the JSE.
=may lead to more regulations being introduced to try to govern behavior. Place a bigger demand on all companies in terms of how much paperwork needs to be filled.
