A
- consent

- privacy and only observed where you would expect to be observed

- animals are interesting in their own right
- some procedures cant be done on humans
- inderstand natural principles e.g learning

A
- suffering hsould be minimised
- species chosen should be the one least likely to feel pain
- the minimum number possible should be used
- animals should have stimulation
- cage conditions hould be good (not crowded or in isolation)
- amimals likely to fight should not be placed next to each other
- animals should be given anesthesia
- animals should have enough space, food and waer

share the same evolution history and have similar hormonal and nervous systems so can be generalied

- OUR BRAIN IS LARGER
- sexual behaviour and capacity to lern is different so cant generalise

- small and cheap to keep
- reproduce quickly
- greater control over sleep, diet and reproduction
- porcedures not done on humans can be doen on animals eg. organ removal
