A
code of conduct that help psychologists cope with potential ethical issues that could arise

VAILD INFORMED CONSENT
A
- Ps must know nature/consequences of study
- consent before data collection

RIGHT TO WITHDRAW
A
- Ps should be able to leave whenever they want
- incentives cannot be removed if Ps withdraws
- data must also be destroyed
- children - verbal and non verbal signals

MIN. HARM & MAX. BENEFIT
A
- impact/consequences that research has on other people in a wider social context
e.g distress, stress, injection/drug therapy

LACK OF DECEPTION
A
- Ps will not be misled or lied to about procedure/purpose
- Ps may feel embarrassed/upset after being deceived

CONFIDENTIALITY
A
- all data collected should not be linked to names/personal info on Ps

PRIVACY
A
- physical space and emotional territory should both be respected
- in observations, people should only be watched in public spaces

DEBRIEFING
A
- at the end of a study, Ps should be thanked, provided info about aims of study, resolve any deception, checked for signs of physical or psychological harm
