What is intentional bias?
The conscious use of race/ethnicity to determine criminal suspiciousness.
What is unintentional bias?
The unconscious use of biases/stereotypes that affect law enforcement decision making
What is discrimination?
Denial of justice and fair treatment.
I.e., employment, education, housing, banking and political rights. Discrimination is an action that can follow prejudicial thinking
What is prejudice?
Prejudging or making a decision about a person or group of people without sufficient knowledge
What is stereotype?
An oversimplified generalization on a person/persons without regard for individual differences
What is racial profiling and some examples?
based on stereotypes, influenced by biases, targets a group by race,
Law enforcement culture and examples?
Isolation that separates the officer from the surrounding society. They assume that the public, or most of it becomes the enemy/threat.
What is a Brady officer, traits or characteristics?
Police officers that have been dishonest. Acts of untruthfulness / perjury
Criminal law violations
Racial profiling / Prejudice
