1) Respect for the dignity of persons
Treated as a person and not like an object, we respect them as human beings, we don’t judge them based on anything they are or what they’ve done, greatest responsibility goes to people in most vulnerable positions.
2) Responsible caring
Do no harm, don’t do things that you feel you’re unable to do, minimize harm, maximize benefits
3) Integrity in relationships
Straightforwardness, accuracy and honesty, know how your background will impact your relationship with client, don’t hide anything, I’m not trained in mindfulness, so I’ll refer you to someone who is.
4) Responsibility to society
Unique to Canadian code, welfare of all human beings is important
DOVE model
D: desire to help (too much? getting job for one of your clients)
O: a powerful opportunity (you’re in a position of power as a therapist and may abuse it without knowing…giving higher grade cause feel bad)
V: value, attending client’s grad ceremony, breaching relationship boundary?
E: education, we’re often educated in our minds but not as much in emotional regulation, know when you need help!
