When can ethics lead to scandals?
When companies promote ethics as a form of marketing, and then fail to act accordingly to the ethics they promote
What does the employment ethics agenda do?
Revolves around the damage caused by unregulated, flexible, free market capitalism, and may vary between organisations, industries, or countries
What are the ethical issues with zero-hours contracts?
The employer has no obligation to offer work, and theoretically the employee has no obligation to accept work, but often if employees do not accept work they will not get offered more, leaving them feeling high levels of stress, and being exploited
What is the main emphasis of globalisation?
Deregulation, as trade unions and work regulations impedes competition, so as a neoliberal project, globalisation condemns them, promoting greater flexibility
What is the retailer-supplier relationship in terms of globalisation?
Multinationals pressure their suppliers to produce goods at a cheaper price, creating a race to the bottom
What are three effects globalisation has had on work and employment?
Growth of income inequality
Diminished bargaining power of workers
Increased job insecurity
