Beneficence
The obligation to avoid harm, protecting a patient from harm. New NP is told to suture a lac on pts face and she tells the MD she has never done that before therefore she is unable to do it
Nonmaleficence
The outcome of the action is what matters with utilitarianism. It also means to use a resource for the benefit of the most. It may resemble justice but it is not the same concept.
Utilitarianism
The lack of bias. The right to fair and equitable treatment. The fair and equitable distribution of societal resources.
Justice
Is a legal requirement to practice as a nurse practitioner. It is done through a governmental entity, the State Board of nursing. The nurse practitioner must meet the minimal education and clinical requirements in order to become licensed.
Licensure
A voluntary process and is done through a non-governmental entities such as professional nursing Association or specialty organization. The majority of states of the United States now mandates board certifications to obtain licensure.
Certification
The duty to present information honestly and truthfully.
Veracity
Mentally competent adult patients have the right to make their own health decisions and express treatment preferences. If the patient is mentally incapacitated, dementia or coma, the designated Siri gets toys are respected. A patient can decline or refused treatment
