What are some ethical issues?
An issue is a dilemma. An ethical issue is a dilemma about right and wrong. The dilemma arises because researchers wish to investigate behaviour to benefit our understanding of people and improve out world. But there are costs to ppt. Ethical guidelines try to work out how to get the balance right.
What is anonymity and confidentiality?
A ppts right to have personal information protected through anonymity or by keeping information safe
Records are disclosed
You can breach confidentiality unless you are worried for their or others safety.
What is deception?
This occurs when a ppt is not told the true research aims of a study and/or not told what they will be required to do
The deception is disclosed to clients at the earleist feasible moment
What is informed consent?
Ppts are given comprehensive information concerning the nature and purpose of a study and their role in it, so that they can make a decision about taking part
What is privacy?
Refers to a person’s right to control the flow of information about themselves.
Invasion of privacy is included as a form of psychological harm
What is right to withdraw?
Ppts should be told that they can stop participating in a study if for any reason they are feeling uncomfortable
What is protection from harm?
Participants should not experiences negative physical effects, such as physical injury, nor should they experience negative psychological effects, such as lowered self esteem or embarrassment.
What are the Principles of ethics?

What is presumptive consent?
\when you ask a similar group if they would take part in this study
What is general prior consent?
You ask them whether they would take part in this study even if it involves deception
