What must you do before legally driving on a public road?
Check that the vehicle tax has been paid
Hold a valid driving lisence
Have valid insurance cover
Ensure the vehicle has a valid MOT
What can you not tax your vehicle without?
A valid MOT and current insurance documentation
What does the vehicle registration certificate (V5C) contain details of?
The vehicle and the registered keeper
When must the registered keeper notify the liscencing authority?
When you change your vehicle, your address, or buy a second hand vehicle so they know the change of ownership
Your health is likely to affect driving, or eyesight doesn’t meet the required standard
What must vehicle tax be paid on?
All motor vehicles used or kept on public roads (unless the vehicle is exempt)
What is a Statutory Off-Road Notification (SORN)?
When you notify the DVSA that you won’t be using the vehicle on public roads, so you don’t need to pay tax
How long does a SORN last?
Until you tax, sell, or scrap the vehicle
Before driving on a public road, what must a learner have?
A valid provisional driving lisecnce
You must have 3rd party insurance cover before driving on public roads, what does this cover?
Injury to others, damage to other property, damage to other vehicles
Driving with no insurance is a criminal offence, what can it lead to?
An unlimited fine, and possibly disqualification
When do you need to show your insurance certificates?
When taxing your vehicle or if a police officer asks you for it
What may you be issued with if you haven’t received your insurance certificate yet?
A temporary cover note
What should you do before driving someone else’s vehicle?
Check its insured for you
How to get a lower insurance?
Be over 25, complete the Pass Plus scheme (not available in northern Ireland)
Insurance policies may have an excess, what is this?
You have to pay the first £x amount of any claim for damage to your vehicle
