Erythrocytes: Erythrogram Flashcards
Erythron
all erythroid cells
includes mature erythrocytes circulating in blood and immature erythroid cells in the bone marrow
Erythrogram
a numerical or graphical representation of RBCs as seen in the CBC data and the morphologic assessment of hte RBCs
Eruthropoiesis
the process of RBC production
in helath there is a balance between production and loss of RBCs
tightly regulated by what the body needs
Anemia
a deficiency of RBCs and or hemoglobin
in vet med primarily determined by HCT or PCV
RBC production < RBC loss
Erythrocytosis
an increase in RBC mass
RBC production > RBC loss
MCV
mean cell volume
MCHC
mean cell Hgb concentration
MCH
meal hell Hgb
RBC indices:
MCV
High MCV: macrocytic
Normal MCV: normocytic
Low MCV: microcytic
tells us the average volume (size) but not the distrubution of size
