-from triggering illness

presentation of erythema multiforme
A
rash - peripherally first
symmetrical on extensors
may be painful, pruritic, or swollen
start as round erythematous papules
turn into target lesions - central necrosis

more severe erythema multiforme
A
mucosal involvement -
blisters, breaking into shallow erosions
white pseudo-membrane

complications of erythema multiforme
A
hyperpigmentation
ocular- keratitis, scarring, uveitis
visual impairment

treatment of erythema multiforme
A
oral histamines or topical steroids for itch
oral washes for mucosa
if recurrent - acyclovir - 6 months
usually resolves 4-6 weeks
