What is erysipelas?
What are its symptoms/characteristics?
A
An invasive skin infection which can extend into superficial cutaneous lymphatics
It’s characterised by painful localised inflammation with a clear demarcation line, alongside fevers, elevated white blood cell count and other systemic symptoms

What pathogen causes erysipelas?
A
Streptococcus pyogenes

What is the treatment for erysepilas?
A
Oral amoxicillin
Clindamycin or erythromycin if allergic to penicillin
