Ergonomics and Anthropometrics Flashcards
What is ergonomics?
Designing a product so that it is comfortable and easy to use (tailored for the user).
Explain ergonomics in size and proportion
Their size and proportions need to fit the needs of the user.
e.g. buttons on a calculator need to be big enough to press.
Explain ergonomic design in health
Ergonomic design helps to ensure that using the product won’t cause health problems.
e.g. an ergonomically designed chair should prevent backache from using the chair regularly.
Why do ergonomics need to take the target market into account?
To ensure that it is tailored for the user.
e.g. a chair size for a five year old should be different from a chair size for a fifteen year old.
What is anthropometric data?
Measurements of human body parts to help with designing a product for humans.
Give three examples of anthropometric data
Upper arm length, chest depth, knee height, heard circumference, shoulder height, little toe length, height, hand width.
