What is exposition?

A

The exposition is the first section of sonata form. It usually has fist theme in tonic key. Then a bridge section in a new key. Then the second theme is usually in a new key and has different character. Finally, there is usually a codetta.

The expositoin is usually repeated once but the optional introduction is usally not included.

What happens in the development section of a sonata form?

A

Development is the section where composer makes changes to the harmony, the themes and keys. This creates tenaion and interest.

What is recapitulation?

A

The third section of a sonata form. The recapituation is where both themes return and both in tonic.

A

Coda is not a standard component of soanta form. It is the last part of sonata form and play the tonic key. There may be repeated cadences and someimtes include new material.
