Equipment Flashcards
What is ASMGCS?
Advanced Surface Movement Guidance and Control Systems
A system providing routing, guidance and surveillance for the control of a/c and vehicles in order to maintain the declared surface movement rate under all weather conditions
When can you use ASMGCS?
In all weathers
What are the four levels of ASMGCS?
- Surveillance
- Control
- Planning/routing (future)
- Guidance (future)
What is covered by Level 1 of the ASMGCS?
Improved Surveillance
Covers the manoeuvring area
The procedures concern identification and issuance of ATC instructions of ATC instructions and clearances
Controllers are given traffic position and identity information
What is level 2 of ASMGCS?
Surveillance and safety nets
Safety nets around the runway and the procedures designated with them
What is covered by level 3 of ASMGCS?
Conflict detection
Future
Detects conflicts on the ground and planning information for controllers
What is level 4 of ASMGCS?
Conflict resolution, automatic planning and guidance
Provides resolutions for all conflicts and automati planning and guidance for pilots and controllers.
What is GPWS?
Ground proximity Warning Systems
Uses a radio altimeter inputs with a/c’s position in relation to terrain and obstacles database, to warn pilots when their aircraft is at risk with colliding with the ground.
Gives a visual and aural warning.
What should a controller do if a pilot reports GPWS warning?
Say roger and say nothing that will dissuade the pilot from climbing.
Pass the relevant pressure setting when available.
What is SMR?
Surface Movement Radar?
What can SMR be used for?
- To monitor the movements of a/c and vehicles on the manoeuvring area
- To provide advice and assistance for the safe and efficient movement of a/c and vehicles on the manoeuvring area
- Determining that a runway is clear of a/c and vehicles
- To ensure dep a/c are lined up on correct runway
- To ascertain a/c have started take-off run
- To monitor traffic to help switching of taxiway lights.
- To monitor and assist emergency services
- If it fails advise everyone being assisted.
What are the methods of identification using SMR?
By correlating
- The position of visually observed a/c or vehicle with that on SMR
- An identified SMR position from another radar source
- SMR position complying with an ATC instruction for a specified manoeuvre
- displayed SMR position to an a/c or vehicle as reported by radio
- displayed SMR position to an a/c or vehicle position eg at a holding position.
How do we promulgate unserviceabilities of equipment?
On ATIS and by NOTAM
