Equilibrium Flashcards
What does change in temperature do to endothermic vs exothermic reaction?
Endo:
- heat is a reactant
- incr heat adds reantant, shift right
- reduce heat takes away reactant, shift left
Exo:
- heat is product
= incr heat, add product, shift left
- reduce heat, take away product, shift left
What factors don’t influence keq?
concentration, catalyst, inert gas add/removal
How does change in pressure affect keq?
reduce pressure > shift side with more moles gas
incr pressure > shift side with less moles of gas
restore eq
What is the relationship of Q to Keq?
Q > Keq
- overshot eq, shift left bc too many products made
Q < Keq
- not yet at Keq, shift right bc not enough products, too many reactants
How does delta G influence equilibrium?
- Exergonic delta G < 0, favors the products
- expect more at Keq, with little concentratino of reactants
Endergonic delta G > 0, favors reactants
- expect more reactants to be left over with little product formed
