Equilibrium Flashcards
What happens to concentration at equilibrium?
The concentration of products and reactants will remain constant.
What is a reversible reaction?
A reaction that can go forwards and backwards.
Why can you never obtain 100% conversion of reactants to products?
Some of the reactants will be lost.
What can chemists do once equilibrium has been established?
They can control certain reaction conditions to influence the position of the equilibrium.
What can altering the reaction conditions result in?
The yield of products increasing and the process being more profitable.
What does Le Chatelier’s principle state?
That if a system at equilibrium is subjected to any change, the system will adjust itself to counteract the applied change.
What factors can be changed?
- Concentration
- Pressure
- Temperature
- Use of catalyst
