Equilibrium Flashcards
Activation energy
The minimum energy required by colliding particles for a reaction to occur
Catalyst
A substance that increases the rate of a chemical reaction but which is chemically unchanged at the end of the reaction
Concentration
A measure of the amount of a substance dissolved in one litre of a solvent
Dynamic equilibrium
The condition which exists when the rate of the forward and backwards reactions is equal and the concentrations of the reactants and product are unchanging
Product
A substance made during a chemical reaction
Reactant
A substance present at the start of a chemical reaction
Reaction rate
A measure of the change in concentration (or volume) of a reactant (or product) over time
Reversible reaction
A reaction that can occur in both directions
Yield
The actual amount of product produced by a chemical reaction
