Equilibrium Flashcards
Graph:-
Rate of forward reaction is decreasing as conc of reactants decrease.
Rate of back increases as product conc increases. When forward and back gradient is same, equilibrium is reached and concs remain constant.
Dynamic equilibrium:-
Forward rate = backward rate.
Concs of all substances stay constant.
Can only happen in a closed system.
Equilibrium constant (kc):-
Product of concs of right/products of conc on left.
Use square brackets.
Compromise:-
An agreement to use reasonable reaction conditions.
Le chatelier’s principle:-
Equilibrium shifts to oppose change in conditions.
What reactions favour higher temp?
Endothermic
Temp increase:-
Forward reaction = exo, bacwards = endo. Equilibrium shifts to left so yield decreased.
Pressure increase:-
Equilibrium shifts to oppose change so shifts to decrease pressure. Shifts to side with fewer moles.
Pressure decrease:-
Equilibrium will shift to increase pressure so shifts to side with more moles of gas.
