Equilibrium Flashcards
Dynamic equilibrium
When concentration is constant but rarely equal
Dynamic equilibrium is reached when
Rate of forward reaction is equal to the rate of the reverse reaction
Ways equilibrium is altered
Change of pressure, concentration or temperature
Le chatliers principle
An equilibrium system always changes to counteract the changes made to the system
Concentration change to move equilibrium to the right
Increase concentration of reactants
Decrease concentration of products
Concentration change to shift equilibrium to the left
Decrease concentration of the reactants
Increase concentration of the products
Increasing temperate favours
Endothermic reactions (+ enthalpy values)
Decreasing temperature favours
Exothermic reactions (negative enthalpy values
Increasing pressure favours
The side which produces less moles of gas
Decreasing the pressure favours
The reaction which produces more moles of gas
Catalyst effect on equilibrium
No impact on position of equilibrium
Will however allow equilibrium to be reached faster
