Epilepsy- Xian Zheng Flashcards
Mild case epilepsy
-doesn’t fall
-blinks, rolls eyes
-head, arm may jerk
-a few seconds/minutes, person may not know if happened
petit mal seizure
Epilepsy: E & P
- Mental and emotional factors
- Constitutional and hereditary factors
- Traumatic injury
- Improper diet
- Others
severe case epilepsy
- cry out, falls to the ground
- loose consciousness, foam at mouth
- stiff body, twitches or uncontrollable spasmodic jerking of limbs
- incontinence of urine/bowels
- several minutes
- deep sleep, confusion, or fatigue afterwards
Mental emotional factors: Epilepsy
- excessive emotions (fear, anxiety, fright or shock) and mental states can disturb normal qi movement, inuring viscera and bowels
- LV and KD injured->generate heat->deplete yin->induce internal wind movemnt
- SP injured->weak function of transforming fluids-> phlegm accumulation->phlegm, heat and wind -> rebellious qi attacking HT Shen, obscure orifices-> seizures
Constitutional and hereditary factors- epilepsy
severe fright or shock to mom during pregnancy ->impairs fetus-> epilepsy
Traumatic injury- epilepsy
Brain damage at birth, or a severe head injury may cause qi stagnation and blood stasis
Improper diet: Epilepsy
aggravates seizure, not clear- wake flare up worse or better
SP and ST impairment->disturbed T & T of nutrients, causing of turbin phlegm that can easily obstruct brain orifices
Others: epilepsy
trigger seizure- flashing lights, stroke, brain surgery, infarction, drug or alcohol use, lack of sleep, physical exhaustion, fever
Epilepsy-Attacking Phases: Yang Seizures-
Grand Mal: Heat- phlegm accumulation in Int. organ obstructing brain orifices start up internal movm’t of wind
Tx: Open seizures, restore consiousness, clear heat, transform phlegm, and extinguish wind, stop seizures
Fx: DING XIAN WAN (Arrest Seizure Pill)
Epilepsy-Remitting Phases: Obstruction by Wind-Phlegm
Tx: Expel phlegm, extinguish wind, open orifices, and stabilize epilepsy
Fx: DING XIAN WAN
Epilepsy-Remitting Phases: LV Fire w/ Internal Profusion of Phlegm Fire
Tx: Clear the LV, drain fire, transform phlegm, open orifices
Fx: LONG DAN XIE GAN TANG + DI TAN TANG
Epilepsy-Remitting Phases: SP and ST Qi Xu
Tx: Strengthen the SP qi, and transform turbid phlegm
Fx: LIU JUN ZI TANG + Shi Chang Pu, Yuan Zhi, Dan Nan Xing
Epilepsy-Remitting Phases: LV and KD Yin Xu
Tx: Nourish and tonify the LV and KD Yin
Fx: DA BU YUAN JIAN (Great Tonify the Primal Decoction) or ZUO GUI WAN
Epilepsy-Remitting Phases: Blood Stasis
Tx: XUE FU ZHU YU TANG or TONG QIAO HUO XUE TANG
