EPIDERMAL TUMORS AND CUTANEOUS CYSTS Flashcards
Epidermal Nevus
Hyperkeratosis, acanthosis and Papillomatosis differentials
C.A.V.E.S DDx:
Conf. and Retic. papillmatosis
A.Nigricans / Acrochordon / Ac.V. Hopf
Verruca vulgaris
Epidermal nevus
Seborrheic keratosis
Inflammatory Verrucous Epidermal Nevus
Nevus sebaceus (of Jadassohn)
*not usually associated with pilosebaceous unit; may have own duct emptying straight from the glands into the epidermis
*NO NESTS OF NEVUS CELLS
Tumors associated with Nevus sebaceus
Trichoblastoma
Syringocystadenoma Papilliferum
Basal cell carcinoma
Seborrheic keratosis
Types of seborrheic keratosis
Keratoacanthoma
*glassy, eosinophilic cytoplasm filled with glycogen
Actinic Keratosis
*there is SPARING OF ADNEXAL STRUCTURES - that’s why the stratum corneum immediately above the adnexal structures have ORTHOKERATOSIS
Strawberry pattern seen in dermoscopy of actinic keratosis is attributed to what?
Sparing of adnexal structures
Actinic Keratosis
Bowen’s Disease
What findings differentiates bowen’s from AK?
- full thickness atypia (sa AK, atypia is on the lower layers of the epidermis)
- involvement of pilosebaceous units (spared ang adnexal structures sa AK)
