epicondylitis Flashcards
tendons inserting into medial epicondyle act to
flex wrist
tendons inserting into lateral epicondyle act to
extend wrist
epicondylitis is due to
repetitive strain
lateral epicondylitis aka
tennis elbow
lateral epicondylitis - features
pain and tenderness lateral epicondyle ,often radiates down forearm
can lead to weakness in grip strength
Mill’s test
elbow extended, forearm supinates and wrist extended
put pressure on lateral epicondyle
if painful –> lateral epicondylitis
medial epicondylitis aka
golfer’s elbow
medial epicondylitis features
pain medial epicondyle , often radiates down forearm
can lead to weakness in grip strength
golfer’s elbow test
elbow extended, arm supinated and wrist extended
put pressure on medial epicondyle
if pain –> medial epicondylitis
Mx
self-limiting
rest
NSAIDs
physio
steroid injections
pain on resisted extension of wrist points to
lateral epicondylitis
pain on resisted flexion of wrist and digits points to
medial epicondylitis
