Enzymes/ Lock And Key Flashcards
1
Q
They…
A
Are proteins. Lowers energy reaction (speeds up process). Reaction-specific. Can be denatured through heating.
2
Q
Lock and key
A
- an enzyme attaches to a substrate at the active site
- the substrate and enzyme combinations is known as the “enzyme-substrate complex
- the enzyme catalyses the chemical reaction by lowering the activation energy. The reaction occurs quicker.
- at end of reaction, enzymes would release products of the reaction and will move on to catalyse another reaction.
3
Q
Factors affection enzyme function
A
- temp. Optimum temp is 37. After 45, denatured.
- ph. + and - ions interfere with bonds. Causes attraction or repelling. Changes shape of active site.
- conc. Increase conc of enzyme or substrate= increased rate of reaction
- co factors and co enzymes. They change the shape of the active site, making it complementary to the substrate
