Enzymes Flashcards
Act on many chemical groupings to add or remove H+ atoms
Oxidoreductases
Transfer functional groups between donor and acceptor molecules. Kinases are specialized transferases that regulate metabolism by transfer phosphate from ATP to other molecules
Transferases
Add water across a bond, hydrolyzing it
Hydrolases
Add water, ammonia and carbon dioxide across double bonds or remove these elements to form double bonds
Lyases
Carry out many types of isomerization, L to D, mutases, shifts of chemical groups (change direction)
isomerases
Catalyze reactions in which two chemical groups are joined or lighted with the use of energy from ATP
Ligases
Rate of enzyme catalyze reaction and the concentration of the substrate (equation)
Michael-Menten Kinectics equation
Michaels-Menten Kinectics equation
V1 = Vmax [S] / {Km + [S]}
Km refers to
Affinity and velocity of substrate
Km relationship to affinity
Inversely
Michaels-Menten equation demonstrates that
1/2 Vmax the substrate concentration is numerically equal to Km
Km = 1/2 Vmax
Decreased Km equates to
High affinity (do not need a high concentration to grab)
Increase Km equates
Decreased affinity (need higher concentration)
