Enzyme experiments Flashcards
What four factors are to be considered in experiments measuring the rate of enzyme action?
Temperature, pH, enzyme concentration and substrate concentration
In each of these experiments, one factor is something while the other three factors must be what?
One factor must be varied and the other three must be kept constant
In varying the 4 factors in enzyme experiments, how is the factor temperature kept constant or varied?
Constant: use water bath(s) at the same temperature
Vary: Use water bath(s) at different temperatures
In varying the 4 factors in enzyme experiments, how is the factor pH kept constant or varied?
Constant: Use the same pH buffer
Vary: Use pH buffer of different values
In varying the 4 factors in enzyme experiments, how is the factor Enzyme concentration kept constant or varied?
Constant: Add the same volumes of enzyme
Vary: not on the course
In varying the 4 factors in enzyme experiments, how is the factor Substrate concentration kept constant or varied?
Constant: Add equal volumes of the same substrate
Vary: Not on the course
