Why does drowning in cold water give you a better chance than drowning in warm water?
Cold water slows down the body processes and will be “preserved” longer
What are the three main distinctions of hyperthermia?
Heat cramps
Heat exhaustion
Heat stroke
What S/S are unique to heat stroke compared to other hyperthermia forms?
Hot, dry skin
AMS
Seizures
Constricted pupils
What is orthostatic hypotension?
Blood pressure dependent on body position
ex. Standing up and getting light headed
What are the three degrees of hypothermia?
Mild, moderate, severe
What are S/S of moderate hypothermia?
Shivering stops, muscle stiffness, cardiac dysrhytmias
What are S/S of severe hypothermia?
Coma, cardiac arrest
Why would we not reheat frostbite?
If there is a chance that they will refreeze
What are the two primary type of venemous snakes to know about? What type of venom do they have?
Rattlesnakes: Hemolytic, proteolytic
Coral snakes: neurotoxin
What does Hymenoptera refer to?
Bees, wasps, fire ants, etc.
