What is the purpose of an EIM?
To identify projects that are subject to an Environmental Impact Assessment and to assess projects which are likely to have significant environmental effects.
What are the 5 major stages?
- Screening (Locating the threshold). 2. Scoping (The emphasis should be on the “main” or “significant” environmental effects to which a development is likely to give rise). 3. Statement Preparation. (The Environmental Statement should be proportionate and not be any longer than is necessary to assess properly those effects). 4. Making a planning application and consultation. 5. Decision making.
What Tier is an EIM again?
Tier 1
What is a Tier 2 assessment?
Sustainability performance levels at estate, site and infrastructure levels. Considers community and whole area socio-economic impacts:
What is a Tier 3 assessment?

Give an example of a leading Tier 3 assessment.
BREEAM: a Ranking system using weighted categories.
What is a tier 4 assessment system?
Environmental assessments of materials
Give some examples of Tier 4 assessment?
Consideration of responsible sourcing of materials: • Life Cycle Assessment • Whole life energy and carbon • Embodied energy • Embodied Carbon
