Red flag: Spicy blackening spices, bacon in warm potato salad. This item is gluten friendly.

Earls uses Farmed Stillwater Steelhead Salmon raised in Lois Lake British Columbia. Farmed salmon is harvested to order, chilled to the core and shipped out the same day. In countless side by side taste tests, we have found fresh farmed salmon to have more flavour and preferred over frozen wild salmon. Much of the controversy around Farmed Salmon is based on poor farming practices. Earls has partnered with a company that has the highest standards for sustainable practices and considers themselves guardians of the natural environment in which they work. They grow these black-spotted species, native to the Pacific Ocean, which are anadromous, meaning they migrate from salt water to spawn in fresh water and can be cultured in either salt or fresh water by hand feeding certified organic high grade feed. No growth promoters or chemical supplements are used. Salmon are stocked at very low densities; maximum stocking density is 1% fish to 99% water; however throughout most of the seawater growing phase, salmon are stocked at below these levels. This approach ensures that our salmon have sufficient space for happy, healthy growth. They have been operating for 10 years, have generated a wealth of “hands-on” experience; matched by no other farmer. Fresh Salmon is harvested and delivered within 2 days of being out of the water ensuring impeccable freshness and taste.

The options are highlighted on their menus and display cases with the Ocean Wise symbol, making it easier for consumers to make environmentally friendly seafood choices. The Ocean Wise logo next to a menu or seafood item is an assurance that the item is a good choice for keeping ocean life healthy and abundant for generations to come.

The Ocean Wise logo can be found in participating restaurants, markets and food-service outlets throughout Canada. Currently there are over 300 participating members, for a total of over 2,700 locations. All of these participants have committed to providing ocean friendly alternatives to their customers.
