What are letter strings?
Letters appear in repeating pattern, first letters mastered are usually child’s name. No concepts of word indicated by lack of spacing. Letters do not represent sounds followed by groups of letters to look like words.
What are invented spellings?
Letters represent sounds, becoming aware of concepts of words. Becoming aware of print conventions. Correct letter formation will developing - letters may be reversed or have extra lines. Child may/not able to read/remember what is written.
What are letter/word representation?
First letter of the word used to represent the entire word. Remember onset and rhyme? First and last letters are used to represent the whole word.
What are medial letter sounds?
Writes words with beginning, middle and ending letter sounds. Demonstrates increased phonemic awareness.
What are long ladder word?
Down and off in another direction (I j l t u v and w with rounded bases).

How can we help scribbers?

What are letter formation?
Model - gross then fine, pattern practice - continuous and grouped across the body, the body, patter and sounds to accompany formation of each letter, supervise until secure, consistency - see “patter,” cultural differences and phonics.
What is a simple sentence?
A simple sentence consist of a single clause. Every clause has a subject and a verb. The dog eats. Subject - dog Verb - eats Other elements in the sentence can be objects. The dog eats a bone The object will be bone.
