Engines Flashcards
What are the idle states of the engines?
Flight Idle, Ground Idle, or Approach Idle (flaps are landing config or engine anti-ice is ON)
What will happen when the EEC goes into Soft Alternate mode? (Floppy mode)
Using last valid data until EEC is switched OFF or throttles retarded to Idle. It will then operate in Hard Alternate
What Hydraulic systems operate the reverse thrusters?
On-side Hydraulic system and backed up by Stanby Hydraulics
What conditions are required for reversers to operate?
Thrust lever in idle, RA < 10ft OR Weight on Wheels
What is the ENGINE CONTROL caption on overhead and when would it display, what would be the result for the flight?
Engine Control systems has parameters out of limit, Only with engines operating, on the ground up to 80kts or 30secs after landing. Non-dispatchable
What would OIL FILTER BYPASS indicate?
Impending blockage of the oil filter, liable to bypass
If the secondary Engine indication’s are automatically displayed due to a Secondary Engine parameter being exceeded, how are they cleared?
The display cannot be cleared until the condition is no longer present.
Should a white box with the caption A/T LIM appear on the UPPER DISPLAY unit, what would this indicate?
The FMC is not providing N1 limit values to the auto throttle, which is using a degraded thrust limit from the EEC.
What would cause the ENG FAIL caption to appear over the EGT gauge?
The engine being below idle ( N2 <50%)
What Wet Start protection does the EEC provide during engine start?
If there is no rise in EGT 15 seconds after the Start Lever is placed to IDLE DETENT, fuel and ignition are automatically shut off
If it becomes necessary to restart an engine in flight, how are the crew made aware of the requirement to cross bleed instead of a windmill start?
The caption ‘X-BLD’ or ‘XB’ if the compact mode is in use, will appear above the N2 gauge. The QRH inflight start envelope should also be checked.
What is the purpose of a reduced thrust takeoff?
It lowers EGT and extends engine life
Where is the air starter mounted and connected to?
Air started on Engine Aux Gearbox connected to N2 Rotor shaft
Which parameters are primary engine indications
N1, EGT
For ground start what does moving the engine start switch to GRD do?
Opens the engine start valve and closes the engine bleed valve (amongst other things)
